About This Guide
This site exists because the phrase Skaftafell glacier hike is sold by four operators, means two different glaciers, and is booked by people who find that out at the meeting point. We list the six guided routes that leave the area, in the detail the listings leave out. The tours themselves sit on the homepage.
Who writes it
Þórunn Halldórsdóttir has guided on the Öræfajökull outlets since 2015, most of those seasons working out of the huts at Skaftafell. She walks each route on this page herself before it goes up, and re-checks the meeting points every season, because two of the six do not meet in Skaftafell at all.
When the honest answer is that you should skip the tour and walk the free S1 trail, the page says so.
How the tours get here
Every route listed is one you can book today through GetYourGuide, run by an operator with certified glacier guides and public safety terms. Prices, durations, group caps and age limits come from the operator's own listing on the day we check it, not from memory or from each other.
What we add is the comparison nobody publishes: how many of those advertised hours you actually spend wearing crampons, where the bus really picks you up, and what the gear list quietly leaves out. Waterproofs and boots are rentals on most of these tours, and that shows up at the hut rather than at checkout.
What we are not
We are not a tour operator, a travel agency, or the official site of any company named here. We take no payments and hold no bookings. Every reservation, change, refund and question about your departure goes to the operator or the booking platform, whose terms are the ones that count.

How it pays for itself
The booking links are affiliate links. If you book through one, the platform pays us a commission and you pay the same price you would pay going direct. That is the whole business model, and it is why the site can stay free to read.
It also means the incentive runs toward getting you to book something, so the counterweight is written into how we work: the free trail gets a fair description, the cheapest tour keeps its warning about the Jökulsárlón meeting point, and no route gets talked up past what its reviews support.
